How Blochisland actually works, written the way the wallet talks: plain, concrete, and honest about what it can and cannot do. No marketing, just the mechanics.

Getting started

Blochisland is a non-custodial Solana wallet. The keys live on your device, the funds live on mainnet, and nothing sits in between. Two steps to a working wallet:

  1. 1
Create your wallet. Open the app and Blochisland generates a keypair on-device. You unlock with Touch ID, then back up your private key right then. That key is the wallet. Write it on paper before you move on.
  2. 2
Fund it. Send SOL to your address from any Solana wallet or exchange. The balance appears once the transaction finalizes, usually under 400ms after it lands on chain.

There is no email, no password reset, no account. If you can hold the key, you can hold the wallet.

Balances (SOL & USDC)

Blochisland holds every token under one key:

  • SOL. Your chain account. Pays network fees, swaps, and sends. This is the balance Solana itself cares about.
  • USDC. Digital dollars, pegged 1:1. Park value here when you do not want it moving with the market. Same key, same finality.

Every token shares one key. There is no second wallet to manage and no bridge between them: a swap is an on-chain trade, not a transfer to a custodian.

Sending & receiving

Receiving is your address. Share it, or show the QR code, and anyone on Solana can pay you. Funds land directly in your wallet.

Sending shows you everything before you sign: the destination, the amount, the token, and the exact fee. Once you confirm, Blochisland broadcasts the transaction and prints the signature after it finalizes. Always check the first and last few characters of an address before you send. There is no undo on a settled transaction.

Swapping

Swapping trades one token into another, SOL to USDC or back, settled on chain with no intermediary holding your funds. You see the quote, the rate, and the fee before signing.

Quotes move with the market, so the amount received can shift slightly between seeing the quote and the swap landing. Blochisland shows the expected output; the chain confirms the actual one.

Security & recovery

Your private key is the only thing that restores the wallet, and a 6 to 8 digit the macOS Keychain protects it on this device, unlocked by Touch ID. It is generated on-device and never sent anywhere. Blochisland cannot see it, cannot reset it, and cannot recover funds if it is lost. That is the cost of holding your own keys.

  • Write the key down offline. Never type it into a website or photo it.
  • Anyone with the key has the wallet. Treat it like cash.
  • To restore, import the key on any Mac running Blochisland. Your balances reappear from chain state.

Fees

Solana charges a network fee per transaction, paid in SOL. It is small and predictable, around ~0.000005 SOL for a typical send. Blochisland takes no cut on top of it.

Every action shows the fee before you sign and prints it after it lands. Keep a little SOL in your SOL balance so you can always cover fees, even when you are mostly holding USDC.

The BLOCH unit

A bloch is a human-sized slice of SOL: 1 BLOCH = .001 SOL. Solana prices everything in whole SOL, which gets awkward for small amounts, so Blochisland displays balances in blochs by default.

It is a display unit, not a separate token. There is nothing to buy and nothing to bridge. Under the hood it is always SOL on mainnet; blochs just make the numbers readable.

FAQ

Is Blochisland custodial?
No. Keys are generated and held on your device. Blochisland never controls your funds and cannot move them.
What happens if I lose my Mac?
Reinstall Blochisland on a new Mac and import your private key. Your balances are rebuilt from on-chain state.
What happens if I lose my private key?
The wallet is unrecoverable. No one, including Blochisland, can restore it. This is fundamental to self-custody.
Which network does Blochisland use?
Solana mainnet, with real funds, from the first deposit. There is no testnet mode pretending to be live.
Are the numbers on the site real?
Balances and stats shown on this site are illustrative. Your real balances come from your own on-chain accounts.
